Project Description
For my final project in DVA110: Lighting and Environmental Design, I created a full 3D scene design based on an approved piece of source material. The project required me to analyze the scene’s mood, theme, symbolism, and narrative purpose, then translate those ideas into a fully built or rendered stage environment. I incorporated scale reference, developed three distinct lighting changes to convey emotional shifts, and assembled a cue sheet detailing all lighting instruments, gels, gobos, and effects used. I also compiled research images and Look Book references to support the visual direction and delivered a complete presentation showcasing the model, lighting progression, thematic choices, and technical documentation.
Fulfilling Objective 2
This project required me to make intentional pre-production and technical decisions that matched lighting tools and environmental design choices to the needs of the scene. By selecting specific lighting instruments, gels, gobos, animation effects, and fixture placements—and organizing them in a detailed cue sheet—I demonstrated a strong understanding of how technical specifications shape mood, symbolism, and visual storytelling. Building and lighting the 3D model showed my ability to choose the appropriate tools and techniques needed to achieve the intended emotional and thematic result.
Fulfilling Objective 3
By designing a fully realized 3D environment and crafting multiple lighting looks to support the scene’s mood and symbolism, I created visuals that reflect professional standards in composition, lighting, and environmental storytelling. Each lighting change was intentionally designed to shape focus, depth, and emotional impact, demonstrating my ability to use current lighting techniques to enhance the overall visual quality. The final rendered model and lighting progression show strong control over visual composition and the ability to communicate narrative meaning through lighting design.
